View Guilford’s harbor from both sides of the Neck River, including the ‘Grass Island’ shack, Since there is no bike path along Route One and lots of traffic, we request only experienced cyclists, and no children. On CT TRAILS DAY 2012, at 10:00 am, our First Saturday Walk will explore Branford’s proposed trail route on the western end of town.
Please join SGT walk leader Chet Blomquist on this easy hike from Alps Road through woodlands to a beautiful view overlooking the Farm River and marshes across to East Haven, site of the Branford Electric Trailway Line. Approx. 1 hour. Easy trail, but not yet suitable for strollers. Meet at 10:00 at the intersection of Alps Road and Katie-Joe Lane. Directions: Route 1 in Branford just west of Branhaven Plaza, take Alps Road approximately one mile to the Hearth at Gardenside on your right, Katie Joe Lane on your left. Look for our SGT signs.

Joel Helander, Guilford’s town historian, will join our walk next Saturday. to share many interesting facts about the property. SGT Board member Ted Braun, an avid hiker and bicyclist, will lead the walk. Explore the beauty and expanse of the East River Preserve, the Town’s recent public acquisition, with This easy 3-mile walk with some hills will provide a general orientation and map for your future explorations. PARKING: Because there is extremely limited parking in a one-lane path at Preserve entrance, we will meet at the Guilford Lakes Elementary School at the junction of Maupas Rd and No. Madison Rd. at 9:45 AM and carpool the mile to the entrance. DIRECTIONS: I-95, Exit 59, go north on Goose Lane, slight right onto Nut Plains Road for c. 1 mile, right onto North Madison Road a short distance, then left onto Maupas and School. Look for SGT signs. (approx. 3 miles from Route 1/Goose Lane intersection to School)
“First Saturday” SGT Winter Walk on Feb 4 in Branford
HARDY WALKERS! JOIN OUR HIKE AROUND THE PINE ORCHARD LOOP – Meet at 10 a.m. Walk along the section that the Branford Shoreline Greenway Trail Team hopes to develop next. We will traverse the short SGT trail that parallels Tilcon Road, to continue onto Totoket Road, crossing over onto Blackstone Avenue and into Young’s Park, then loop around the Park, and return via the ‘Around Branford’ Trail. If no snow, terrain varies from smooth to rough road surfaces, not yet suitable for strollers. Directions: Route 146, turn south on Totoket Road, bear left at ”V” (golf course on left and ahead on right). First left is Tilcon Road which ends at the western end of the Stony Creek Trolley Trail. Meet in Tilcon parking lot by 10 a.m
