August 2 ‘First Saturday’ Walk in Branford

Farm River estuary view from promontaryJoin us on Saturday, August 2 at 10 am for a hike beginning at the Hearth at Gardenside in Branford.  SGT team members will lead a hike through woods and alongside marshes that end in a small promontory with a beautiful view of the Farm River Estuary and the Shoreline Trolley museum trolley track.  A relatively short one-hour hike over terrain not suitable for strollers.  Meet and park along Katie Jo Lane opposite the entrance to the Hearth at Gardenside. 

Directions:  I 95 Exit 54 (Cedar Street), head toward Route 1; right at the light, continue past Branhaven Plaza on your left; Alps Road is your next left at the light.  Hearth at Gardenside c. one mile on right.

July 5th ‘First Saturday’ Hike, the Menunkatuck Trail in Guilford

On July 5th, join SGT leader Milton Charlton in exploring the blue-blazed Menunkatuck Trail that runs north from Long Island Sound at Chittenden Park in Guilford almost to the border with Durham.  Milton will lead hikers on a 4 mile, 2.5 hour round-trip hike through the Timberlands section of the trail in North Guilford.  Meet at the dam at Upper Guilford Lake (on Lakeside Drive) at 9:30 a.m.  Directions: From I 95 Exit 58, go north on Rt. 77, turn right on Stepstone Hill, pass the golf course, then turn left on Lakeside Drive.  Call Milton at 203-815-9587 if you have questions.

‘First Saturday’, May 3 at 10AM – Come walk our showcase Trail and Celebrate our 12th anniversary at Hammonasset Beach State Park

Everyone is invited!!  Come walk and bike our finished Trail at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison to celebrate our 12th year!  Use our new parking lot, walk our new boardwalk and hike the length of our finished one-mile Trail!  Chair Chip Angle will share 2013 highlights of the Trail’s  progress in all four of our towns.

Then John Paulson, chair of the Trail Development Team for Shoreline Greenway Trail will lead us  on an easy 2-mile roundtrip walk from our new parking lot to the future street crosswalk onto our walkway across the marsh along the completed Trail around the peninsula and back.  Spectacular marsh views and bird watching. Very easy, a few minor hills, one hour walk. Meet at our Shoreline Greenway Trail eastern trailhead parking lot off Route One, just east of the Hammonasset entrance road.   Directions:  Exit 62 from I 95 south to Route 1.
