New! A Bike Ride on SGT First Saturday in Branford October 1, 10am
Although we had to cancel the First Saturday Walk on October 1st in Branford due to the hurricane debris on the trails, we were able to have an on-road bike ride as scheduled in Branford, led by Paul Proulx of Elm City Cycling.
We biked the Indian Neck-Pine Orchard-Trolley Trail loop to Shoreline Greenway Trail’s Birch Road Trail section and saw the planned SGT route at Young’s Pond on the return loop.
Volunteers cleared Branford Tabor trail – rescheduled First Saturday Walk to Nov. 5
Veteran trail blazer Chet Blomquist and five other senior members of Branford’s SGT Team organized a “hurricane cleanup” on October 1, the morning that the Branford First Saturday Walk had to be cancelled. They cleared many fallen trees, branches and litter along Branford’s Tabor trail section, opening it up again. Thank you, men, for your dedicated volunteer help: Chet Blomquist, Tony Corso, Dave Stamp, Rich Radune, Leo Cristofar and Dennis Kelly for working to clean up the mess Irene left on the Tabor trail. The work party did an excellent job and the trail is nearly ready for people traffic. Yea! Sorry Leo and Dennis for not getting you in the picture below!
Now Chet has rescheduled his 1st Saturday Walk along the Tabor trail section in Branford to November 5, the next First Saturday Walk date. Just show up at 10 am at the Tabor Church parking lot on Tabor Drive off Montowese Street in Branford.
And if you prefer to bike, join the Guilford SGT Team on a bike ride from the Guilford harbor to Stony Creek. Check under Walk & Bike for details.
Also, a special thanks to Paul Proulx, for mapping out and leading a wonderful bike ride around Pine Orchard on Oct 1, a drizzly morning that deterred all but one couple who braved the weather and enjoyed the ride with Paul after the rain stopped. We will do the ride again sometime in the future under better weather conditions!
